The Federal Way girls soccer team clinched the third seed from the South Puget Sound League South Division Thursday with a 3-0 win over Beamer at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

The Eagles (8-2-6) will take on Kentwood at 6 p.m. at Federal Way Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night at the SPSL Tournament. Kentwood (10-3-3) finished third in the SPSL North. The winner will be the SPSL’s fifth seed to the West Central/Southwest District Tournament and the loser will be the sixth.

Against Beamer, the Eagles got single goals from Gabriela Pelogi, Sydney Slagg and Chandler Mader. Federal Way also picked up another shutout in goal from senior Sarah Shimer. The University of Washington-bound keeper has seven shutouts on the season.

The goal was Pelogi’s 16th of the season to lead the Eagles. The sophomore also leads the team with six assists. Slagg is second on the team with six goals.

Thursday’s loss ended Beamer’s season and will be the first time the Titans won’t be included in the playoffs since the 2004 season. The Titans finished the year 6-7-3, which was good for sixth place in the South. Beamer has won four of the last five SPSL South championships.

The Titans were led during the season by 10 goals and four assists by senior forward Jenny Hoefel, who was a first-team All-State selection a season ago. Megan Anderson tallied eight goals and four assists and freshman Emily Gunderson finished with five goals.
