At 7:18 p.m. March 19 in the 30700 block of 12th Place Southwest, police responded to the scene of an assault. A man reported a verbal argument between himself and another man ended when the suspect caused injuries to the victim’s eye through the use of a cattle prod, police spokesman Raymond Bunk said. Police discovered the 45-year-old suspect had a felony warrant for his arrest.
Police attempted to get the man to exit the home, but several attempts failed. Members of the Valley Special Weapons and Tactics Team (VSWAT) were called and later, with a search warrant, used explosives and pepper spray to enter the barricaded residence, Bunk said. Neighbors were evacuated prior to avoid injuries.
The suspect and two other men were arrested. Two were placed in custody for obstruction and the suspect was arrested on his warrant and in connection with the assault. The men were not seriously injured. The victim was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
