From staff reports:
The Federal Way Community Center is playing host to the upcoming Miles for Meso 5-kilometer Run/Walk on July 4, starting at 8:30 a.m.
This event is a fundraiser in honor of Federal Way School District Athletic Hall of Famers Bud Hatley and Bob Stewart, as well as all others who have died from Mesothelioma. All proceeds will go to the Mesothelioma Foundation.
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that develops from transformed cells originating in the mesothelium, the protective lining that covers many of the internal organs of the body. It is usually caused by exposure to asbestos.
The cost for the 5K is $25 for runners 10 and older and $15 for those under 10. The price includes a T-shirt and pancake breakfast. The community center is located at 876 S. 333rd St.
