The Federal Way Eagle track teams both finished up in second place at Saturday’s prestigious Tacoma Invitational at Lincoln High School. The Eagle girls ended up behind Kentwood in the 34-team meet and the Eagle boys were second behind Peninsula.
The Eagle girls got first-place finishes from Tiara Fuller in the 100-meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles and the 400-meter relay. Fuller won the 100 hurdles in 16.59 ahead of Tumwater’s Krissy Buckler. In the 300 hurdles, Fuller outdistanced Beamer’s Mackenzie Hickel and Jefferson’s Lindsey Dahl.
Dahl, who won triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 4 inches, led the Raiders to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Jefferson also got a first place finish from Kayla Adams in the discus with a throw of 118-10. Adams also ended up second in the shot put (40-10 1/2). She won the Class 4A title in the shot put at last year’s state championships. Jefferson’s Kendra Ansotigue was second in the javelin with a throw of 114-1.
Federal Way also got second-place finishes from freshman Majarae Gates in the 100 in a time of 12.64 and Dyesha Belhumeur in the high jump (5-0).
On the boys’ side, the Eagles got individual first-place finishes from Trenton Pinson in the 100 and Robert Shelby in the 300 hurdles. The pair lead the state in those events. Pinson won the 100 in 11.28, outdistancing Lincoln’s Quadelle Satterwhite and Shelby won the 300 hurdles in 39.5, ahead of Jefferson’s Scott Sanford (40.04).
The Eagles also brought home a pair of first-place finishes in the 400 relay (42.92) and 1,600 relay (3:22.28).
Jefferson, which ended up 10th in the team standings, also got an individual victory from Jonathan Volland in the pole vault. The senior leapt 11-9.
In other track and field action:
• The Thomas Jefferson Raiders swept an SPSL Central Division dual meet Thursday against the Todd Beamer Titans. The TJ boys won, 76-60, and the Raider girls beat Beamer, 83-58.
On the boys’ side, Jefferson got three individual wins from Mikhail Vlasenko in the shot put (43-10), discus (122-9) and javelin (125-1) and Scott Sanford in the 110 hurdles (15.6), 300 hurdles (41.37) and triple jump (41-0 1/4). The Raiders also got double wins from Aaron Jeong in the 100 (11.14) and 200 (23.0) and Chase Braxmeyer in the 1,600 (4:41.34) and 3,200 (10:19.72).
The Raiders’ other individual wins came from Michael Sallee in the long jump (19-7) and Matt Barner in the pole vault (12-6).
Beamer’s wins came from Bronson Martinez in the high jump (5-6), Sean Eidsmoe in the 800 (2:07.90) and Kenny Pickens in the 400 (56.18).
On the girls’ side, Jefferson got double wins from Lindsey Dahl in the long jump (16-2 1/4) and triple jump (35-7), Kayla Adams in the shot put (40-9) and discus (123-02) and Lacey Printz in the 1,600 (5:58.57) and 3,200 (12:26.10). The Raiders also got wins from Cheryl Hong in the 100 (13.28), Sydney Walker in the 400 (1:05.41), Caitlin Nolan in the pole vault (7-6) and Kendra Ansotigue in the javelin (114-4).
Beamer got a pair of individual wins from Mackenzie Hickel in the 100 hurdles (16.36) and 300 hurdles (48.41) and single wins from Miranda Vaara in the high jump (4-8), Jordyn Brown in the 800 (2:40.63) and Sydney Rogalia in the 200 (27.4).
