About 500 people attended the Federal Way-based FUSION’s “Moroccan Mystique” fundraiser last evening at the Dumas Bay Centre.

“We had a great turnout, the best event ever,” FUSION founder and president Peggy LaPorte said. “We had $91,750 just in sponsorships.”

LaPorte said they raised $170,000 in gross sales, which excludes the expenses for the event.

FUSION, which stands for Friends United to Shelter the Indigent, Oppressed and Needy, relies on the generous donations in order to provide housing and supportive services to homeless families in Federal Way and northeast Tacoma.

“Moroccan Mystique” was sponsored by HomeStreet Bank and Franciscan Health System and featured belly dancing entertainment, an artist marketplace for patrons to shop, dinner by Mediterranean Gyro Grill and silent and live auctions with themed patio umbrellas.
