As we move into 2011, it is now time to put together one of the programs that I have wanted to do since taking over the helm at The Mirror. This is the formation of an editorial board for The Mirror. As you know, The Mirror generally endorses campaigns, hot topic issues and specific referendums.
This board will take a significant role in the process and the selection of those endorsements and will consist of the publisher, editor and three at-large community members. These initial three community members will be selected for one-year terms. To be considered for the board, please submit a 250-word statement as to why you would want to be involved and why you should be selected.
Board members should represent a range of backgrounds, both political and socioeconomic. No particular qualifications exist for this board, except:
• You must be keenly aware of the issues Federal Way is dealing with,
• You must be open-minded and have the ability to listen to multiple points of view,
• Your name will be printed in the masthead area of the opinion pages, which could lead to public criticism and complaints,
• When editorials are written by the board, they will generally represent The Mirror’s official position on the issue.
This is an unpaid position. The editorial board will meet once a month to discuss the issues. Please submit your statement to publisher@federalway
mirror.com by Jan. 24, 2011. We will select the three board members by the first week in February.
