PREP SPORTS WRAP: Jefferson, Federal Way soccer teams continue early-season domination

The defending South Puget Sound League champion Thomas Jefferson Raiders continue to steamroll in the early season. The Raiders (5-0-0) shut out Kentridge Saturday, 2-0, to vault five points clear of second-place Kentwood (3-1-1).

Jefferson got a pair of second-half goals Saturday from Raul Duran in the 55th and 77th minutes. The first came on a pass from Jamie Prado-Huerta and the second was assisted by Luis Alvaro Osornio. McKay Owsley picked up his third shutout of the young season.

So far this year, TJ has outscored its opponents, 14-3.

Federal Way — The Eagles remained unbeaten on the season with a shutout of the Curtis Vikings Saturday at home, 2-0. Federal Way (5-0-0) picked up goals from Garrett Brewer and Edwin Ortiz. Odasson Pelogi assisted on both goals.

The Eagles are the lone unbeaten team in the SPSL South and sit four points in front of second-place Puyallup (3-0-2). Federal Way and Puyallup play Friday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

Beamer — The Titans got back in the win column Saturday with a 4-2 victory over Bethel on the road. Beamer (3-1-1) picked up goals from Hassani Dotson, Cole Hoefel, Hunter Colvin and Aung Ta during the win.

Baseball

Decatur — The Gators got a huge win over the Peninsula Seahawks Friday afternoon, 6-1, in Federal Way. The Gators outhit the defending SPSL 3A champions, 7-4, to win their fifth game in a row.

The victory moved Decatur to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the SPSL 3A Division. Sophomore Isaiah Hatch finished 3 for 4 with two runs, a double and an RBI, Chris Carns was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Derek Bontempo finished with a pair of RBIs.

Janson Junk picked up the win on the mound, throwing five innings and giving up just two hits and no earned runs.

Beamer — The Titans (3-3 overall, 2-1 SPSL South) tallied 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to beat the Spanaway Lake Sentinels Friday, 12-1.

Beamer’s Scott Sunitsch continued his torrid early-season by finishing 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a double. Ben Arata was 2 for 4 with four RBIs and Lawyer Braun finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.

J.J. Asinas picked up the win on the mound after striking out six and walking zero.

Federal Way — The Eagles (1-5 overall, 0-3 SPSL South) were beaten up again, this time by the Rogers Rams Friday, 10-0. The Rams scored four runs in the sixth inning before the game was called.

Federal Way’s Rylan Cratsenberg tallied two of the Eagles’ three hits on the day.

Softball

Beamer — The Titans needed only five innings to blow away Spanaway Lake Friday, 17-1. Beamer (3-1 overall, 1-0 SPSL South) scored nine runs in the second, five in the third and three in the fourth.

Madison Rogers allowed only two hits on the mound and Megan Jewett-Chan was just a single away from hitting for the cycle. Jewett-Chan finished 3 for 4 with a double, triple, home run and three RBIs. Halle Colson was 3 for 3 with a double and RBI and Maddy Colson finished 2 for 3 with a double, three runs and two stolen bases.

Federal Way — The Eagles (2-3 overall, 0-2 SPSL South) lost in five innings to the Rogers Rams Friday. Federal Way committed six errors and had only three hits.
