Recently, Federal Way Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Pierson announced the Chamber’s endorsement of the “vote no” on Proposition 1 on the strong mayor issue. He emphasized that we should continue our community’s vision to make Federal Way a great place to live, work and play.
I couldn’t agree more and have always believed in involving myself in my city to help create a positive environment by continually volunteering time and efforts in support of various community projects.
I do not understand the ACT (Accountability Comes to Town) organization’s hype that we should elect a strong mayor form of government to run the city and form our destiny. Who are these people? What volunteer efforts have they made over the years to advance the improvement and livability of our city? They do not support our parks, our community center or anything that makes Federal Way a better place to live. In fact, they oppose everything that was created for that purpose in their usual negative narratives.
What is their vision and what is behind their organization? The list of people who financially support them reveals that 12 out of the 21 live outside the city. Several of the people listed are real estate developers.
One developer (from Seattle) has given the astonishing amount of $10,000. Could “accountability” be heading north?
I hope you will see the threat to our city as I do.
Please vote no on Proposition 1 — the “strong mayor” initiative.
