Students at Mark Twain Elementary who show positive performance in their classrooms and their health and fitness class are being invited to join a new club at the school called the I Love Me Contract Club.
The club, created by health and fitness teacher Nova Jones, aims to emphasize the classroom and gym connection. Students, chosen monthly by both their homeroom teachers and Jones, are selected for demonstrating energy and effort toward exercise, eating correctly and completing their homework.
The students earn a t-shirt, with permission to wear it as a uniform top.
“What I set out to do was to use my influence with the students as their coach to encourage them to be efficient life-long learners,” Jones said. “This was one of the best ways I thought I could assert my influence to positively impact their lives. My goal is to create a connection in the students’ minds between exercise and the classroom.”
