FW woman joins CIS state board
Aline Carnahan, a longtime board member of Communities in Schools of Federal Way, has been named a director on the CIS Washington State Board of Directors. Carnahan will still continue to serve on the CIS of Federal Way board as well. Carnahan will serve one year and have the option to renew for another year.
Fire chief earns international designation
South King Fire and Rescue Chief Al Church has been re-designated as a Chief Fire Officer by the Commission on Professional Credentialing. Church was re-designated due to his education, leadership and management skills. Church had originally received his designation in 2003; every three years he must renew.
The Chief Fire Officer Designation Program is a voluntary accreditation program designed to measure excellence in seven categories: Experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association memberships, community involvement and technical competencies.
There are currently 25 chiefs in the state who also hold the designation. Church has been with the department since 1978 and has been chief since 2001.
Decatur grad embraces entrepreneurship
Federal Way resident Jason Williams recently graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a 4.0 GPA and as the the 2009 recipient of the President’s Citation Award. Jason grew up in Federal Way and attended Sherwood Forest Elementary School, Saghalie Middle School and Decatur High School where he was ASB Vice President.
Jason is now embracing entrepreneurship by joining with five fellow SPU students to start the company Olive Only, which will develop and market a national line of consumer products made with heart healthy olive oil to sustain the health and wellness of its customers. Olive Only has already won the Pioneer Prize (2nd Place) at SPU’s Social Venture Business Plan Competition, and made it to the Sweet 16 (final round) at UW’s Business Plan Competition.
Physician honored
Federal Way resident Dr. Philip Lee Lund has been inducted as a fellow in the American College of Radiology.
Only 10 percent of college members have been awarded this honor.
ACR Fellowship is awarded to members who have evidenced significant accomplishments in advancing the field of radiology.
Dr. Lund is partner and president of Valley Radiologists at Valley Medical Center, and he is a radiologist at Auburn Regional Medical Center. He is a member of the ACR, Society for Pediatric Radiology, and the American College of Physician Executives. Dr. Lund earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1984.
