The food is always good, but it’s the people that really draw crowds to the Federal Way Kiwanis Club’s annual Salmon Bake.

The Federal Way Kiwanis annual Salmon Bake will run 4 to 8 p.m. July 25 at Steel Lake Park, 2410 S. 312th St. The annual event includes plenty of salmon, desserts, local vendors and live music.

All the proceeds from the dinner will benefit local charities for children. Some of the Kiwanis biggest contributions are to several college scholarships for Federal Way students, as well as diapers and formula for the Multi-Service Center.

Maher memorial

FUSION’s 15th annual summer art benefit

Come be razzle-dazzled at “A Gatsby Soiree” from 3 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Dumas Bay Centre in Federal Way.

The evening presents culinary delights from Metropolitan Market, an Art Walk featuring 40 local artists, and a silent and live auction. Proceeds go to housing and support for families in need as they transition into permanent housing.

Classic car show

The fourth annual Federal Way Lions Club Scholarship Car Show will run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at The Commons mall parking lot, at Pacific Highway South and South 320th Street in Federal Way. More than 30 awards will be given at 3 p.m., including “people’s choice,” “baddest truck” and “most exotic.” Registration fee is $15 by Aug. 20 and $20 after. Master gardeners

Master gardeners will be at the Federal Way Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday through Oct. 25 at The Commons mall parking lot, at Pacific Highway South and South 320th Street. The gardeners are volunteers trained by Washington State University to provide free research-based horticultural information to the public. The program began in King and Pierce counties 35 years ago and has since spread to all 50 states and some foreign countries.

Summer Sounds at the Beach

The Federal Way Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department will sponsor free outdoor concerts this summer at Steel Lake Park, 2410 S. 312th St. Music runs 7 to 8 p.m. (6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on July 23). Events are Crème Tangerine (Beatles tribute) on July 16; Wooden O Theatre Company (Shakespearean plays) on July 23; The Islanders (tropical sounds) on July 23; 2nd Edition (children’s) on Aug. 6; Dynamik (original pop) on Aug. 13; Petty Thief (a Tom Petty tribute) on Aug. 20. Concessions will be available for purchase. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. In case of rain, concerts will be relocated to the Federal Way Community Center, 876 S. 333rd St. Call (253) 835-6900.
