The Korean American Coalition of Washington (KAC-WA) is hosting its 2010 Convention on Friday, Oct. 15, at the King County Aquatic Center, 650 SW Campus Drive, Federal Way. The theme of the convention, “Reaching for the Stars,” encompasses the ideals of empowering the Korean American community by striving for a better future through civic participation and community advocacy.

Emceed by King 5’s Elisa Hahn, guests will come together to learn about issues pertinent to the Korean American community and also meet candidates in the November election. Scheduled candidates include Congressional candidates Adam Smith and Richard (Dick) Muri; and U.S. Senate candidate Dino Rossi. Also participating are the Federal Way mayoral candidates Skip Priest and Jim Ferrell, and State Senate candidates Tony Moore and Tracey Eide.

Formerly the Korean American Voters Alliance (KAVA), KAC-WA is a non-profit community based organization founded in 2002 to increase civic awareness and participation. In 2007, KAC-WA merged with the Korean American Professional Society (KAPS), which was founded in 1993 to promote networking, education and community service. Today, the organization has a membership of more than 4,500 and a strong core of volunteers and leaders.
